The Bastard Child of Gifted Ghosts
“If Kate Bush and Robert Smith (of The Cure) had a kid and she played piano, it would be me.” declares Charlotte Martin. An Illnois native who has lived in LA for several years, the 26 year old singer/songwriter is that rare artist who not only has influences but proudly and publicly embraces them. Those lucky enough to have heard her never-released debut indie CD One Girl Army know just what Charlotte has been up to. The album is an emotionally expressive work dominated by searing honesty, and it shows a glimmer of the goth influences Charlotte promises will be more prevalent in her as yet untitled forthcoming RCA debut. Having studied opera first, Charlotte began writing pop songs in response to a close friend’s suicide. After opening that vein, the truth came gushing forth and she’s been in pursuit of her pop / rock voice ever since. It’s been a long wait for both charlotte and her growing fan base. Fortunately, that wait is coming to an end.
We Predict : Charlotte’s raw talent and hungry approach to her art will earn her legions: a big hit single could snag her the big time.
