CHARLOTTE MARTIN TO RELEASE IN PARENTHESES
Following in the direction of other new and talented female musicians like
Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton is the 26-year-old
chanteuse/songwriter/pianist CHARLOTTE MARTIN. A not-so-closet Goth with
bleach-blonde hair, Charlotte Martin has a knack for crafting
emotionally-complex songs that continually flirt with pop structures. While her
beautiful voice and piano-playing prowess offer an entrée into her music, it’s
Martin’s uncompromising lyrics that keep you coming back.
Charlotte is often likened to Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Aimee Mann, Joni Mitchell,
PJ Harvey, and Sarah McLachlan. Her music is a telling snapshot of her life
while still evoking a feminine sensuality that is often missed in today’s music.
IN PARENTHESES is set for release August 5th but she's already generated
critical raves. Details Magazine said, "She's a seductive live performer who
writhes and shimmies on her piano stool in the quest to ‘take then audience to
another planet,' as she puts it," while the Illinois Entertainer claimed her
"lyrics and lilting voice are already exquisite and eloquent."
During her live shows, Martin also gives all. She attacks the keyboard, allowing
her charismatic personality to take over the room with the same intensity as the
topics she’s covering. Martin uses her shows to further connect with her fans,
keeping the evening conversational and often baring gifts for the audience. It’s
no wonder her shows have grown to become constant sellouts.
Charlotte has just teamed up with Pete Yorn, playing piano for his latest album.
She also has a song in the hit in screen comedy "Sweet Home Alabama," both in
the film and the soundtrack album. Charlotte also sang and opened for Damien
Rice during his Bowery Ballroom show in NYC on June 11th.
